Hi, my name is Jackie Carter. I am a speech-language pathologist and dyslexia testing specialist and practitioner who is absolutely passionate about the work I do with children.
After working for years as a speech-language pathologist in the schools, I established my private practice in the fall of 2006. My practice celebrates the diversity of strengths and needs that each child possesses. I believe that each of my students’ needs becomes a puzzle to be solved, a challenge I love as I come to know the unique ways in which each he/she learns best. Therefore, each therapy session is tailored to meet the child’s individual needs. I provide therapy at my office, and will also see children in their schools during the school day.
My son Jeffrey (pictured to the left), the youngest of my five children, has Down syndrome. I know firsthand what it “feels” like to parent a child who struggles to learn. I also see on a daily basis the efforts he has to expend to learn what comes naturally for most of his peers. This helps me empathize with the parents and children with whom I work and makes me a more compassionate therapist.
Being both the mother of a child with special needs and an educator, I have come to know special education law and the IEP process very well. Skilled at writing IEP’s I also serve as a consultant at IEP meetings. IEPs benefit our children most when the goals and objectives are detailed and follow a developmental sequence.
Communication Sensation provides professional, ethical, and comprehensive evaluation and treatment for children in all areas of communication: auditory processing speaking, language, reading, spelling and writing.
I welcome the opportunity to serve you and your child, working within the family structure to improve your child’s communication and academic skills. Working together with the school and teachers we, as a team, can advance your child to a successful future. Your child has potential just waiting to be unleashed!
